Supplying batteries since 1952

History

Manbat Industrial Division is an amalgamation of three industrial battery companies – Battery Power Systems, Compass Batteries and Powercell Industrial Battery Engineers.

Compass Batteries was a well established family business based in Bristol serving the local area with the sales and servicing of traction batteries. Compass was purchased by Manbat in 2010 as Manbat’s first foray into the industrial battery marketplace.

Battery Power Systems Limited was originally founded as a small family business in 1984 with the aim of supplying high quality batteries and service to the materials handling and floorcare industries.

For over 25 years BPS steadily grew to become the largest independent supplier in the UK and one of the most respected names in the industry through it’s business ethics and quality of products and service.

In 2011 BPS Ltd was also acquired by the Manbat Group and the two industrial businesses were combined to make Manbat Industrial Division.

This immediately established the Manbat brand into the industrial marketplace.

During the last 3 years Manbat has developed it’s industrial business strategy, introduced new products and used it’s substantial resources to further improve and expand the business in this exciting and varied marketplace.

To further demonstrate Manbat’s commitment to growing it’s presence the Industrial Sector, in August 2014, Manbat acquired Powercell, an award winning privately owned company based in the South East.

This latest acquisition now makes Manbat Industrial Division a major force in the industrial marketplace and we are now able to offer the best sales and support coverage in the UK.

Manbat is a name that has been heard within the aftermarket for as long as anyone can remember, and the company’s reputation for quality products and good old fashioned service remains as strong today as it was in 1952, when the business was founded. Originally named Manchester Batteries when Harry Pemberton started trading from Turnpike Cottages in Abergele, North Wales, the business remained in the Pemberton family until 2009. During that period the company grew steadily, establishing itself as business committed to providing its customers with top quality products that are supported by exceptional customer service. In 2009 Roger Pemberton retired as Manbat’s managing director and Steve Sheppard took the helm as the company started a new era under the ownership of the Eco-Bat Technologies group.
